Sumika Tsujimoto was born in Nara, Japan. She started studying the saxophone at the age of thirteen and after studying at the music school in Nara she pursued her studies at the University of Soai in Osaka, under the tutelage of Suwako Iwata and Masahiro Maeda. After finishing first in her year in the department of wind instruments she won the university’s president’s prize. She has won numerous awards including the 3rd prize in the solo division and the ensemble division at the OSAKA International Music Competition (2012, 2015), winner in the saxophone division at the Japan Classic Music Competition.

After her studies in Japan, she decided to move to France to continue her studies with Philippe Geiss in Conservatory Strasbourg. She Graduate saxophone department with unanimity with Special Congratulations of Jury. She performs regularly the saxophone with her Aerophone (electric saxophone) both in live concerts and online, with her Youtube channel ‘Sumichannel’ being a notable success. Now she has 15,000 subscribers and 2 million views.

She is also a founding member of the ‘Quatuor AVENA’, a vibrant young saxophone quartet based in Strasbourg who have taken France by storm with performances around the country as well as a South Africa tuor. With the Avena quartet Sumika has continued winning awards with notable performances including; 1st prize and the special prize of L’APEC at the La Ville de Boulogne-Billancourt organise le concours d’interprétation « Musique de chambre des XXe et XXIe siècles »,1st prize and the special prize of ’Kazuo Tomioka’ at the Kurashiki International Saxophone Competition, 1st prize and the special prize of Leopold Bellan International Concours and the1st prize at the chamber music competition of Remirmont.
